1.Introduction to RS485 Interface
2.Features of RS485
3. JY electronics' ESD/EOS Protection Solution for RS485 Interface
RS-485 defines the electrical characteristics of drivers and receivers using a balanced multipoint transmission line. The RS-485 standard was generated to compensate for the short distance and low rate of RS-232 communication.
2.What are the characteristics of RS485 interface
2.1 Low interface voltage level, not easy to damage the chip
RS485 electrical characteristics
Logic '1' is represented by a voltage difference between the two lines of + (2-6) V, Logic '0' is represented by a voltage difference between the two lines of -(2-6) V, The interface signal voltage level is reduced compared to RS232, making the chip less susceptible to damage to the interface circuit
2.2 high transmission rate
10 m, RS485 data transmission rate of up to 35Mbps; 1200m, the transmission rate of up to 100Kbps
2.3 Strong resistance to interference
The RS485 interface employs a combination of balanced drivers and differential receivers, enhancing its common-mode noise immunity, i.e., it exhibits good resistance to noise interference.
2.4 Long transmission distance and support for multiple nodes.
The RS485 bus can transmit over 1200m (at speeds <100Kbps), typically supporting a maximum of 32 nodes.
Utilizing specially designed RS-485 chips can significantly increase node capacities, reaching up to 128 or even 256 nodes, with a maximum support capability of 400 nodes. The RS-485 standard is commonly employed as a relatively cost-effective communication platform known for its substantial noise suppression, relatively high transmission rates, long-distance capabilities, and broad common-mode range. Simultaneously, RS-485 circuits offer the advantages of convenient control, making them a cost-effective solution.
3. JY Electronics' Application of ESD/EOS Protection Solutions for RS485 Interface.
In industrial control and instrumentation applications, RS-485 communication links often face the challenge of transmitting data over significant distances between multiple systems, operating in harsh electromagnetic environments. Phenomena such as electrostatic discharge, induced lightning surges, and other electromagnetic interferences can lead to substantial transient voltage spikes, posing a threat to communication ports. To ensure the reliable operation of these data ports in the final installed environment, protective measures need to be taken in the circuit design. To meet these stringent requirements, Crystal Electronics has introduced its RS485 interface ESD/EOS protection solutions, featuring the following products:
